Filter spam comments in WordPress or simply turn them off

Under Settings/Discussion you will see several check boxes.

The first checkbox we will want UNCHECKED is the one below under Default article settings…

Now under Other comment settings make sure that “Automatically close comments older than 0 days” is checked and set to 0. This will simply remove comments altogether. Here is an example of how it should look below…

Just to be sure though, under Before a comment appears, make sure both boxes are checked.

Now under Comment Moderation, to keep out spam on sites that we want to allow comments, we set,’Hold a comment in the queue if it contains 0 or more links’.

These settings will disable your comments and allow you to eliminate some of the spam.
